CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: HEALTH CHAMPIONS MERIT AWARDS - Deadline November 30 2015

Dear Stakeholders in Health in Nigeria,

The Health Systems and Projects Consultants on behalf of the Coalition of CSOs and NGOs in Health in Nigeria [COCSONGOSH]/Afrihealth Optonet Association and Society for Conservation and Sustainability of Energy and Environment in Nigeria (SOCSEEN) hereby invite nominations for the HEALTH CHAMPIONS MERIT AWARDS (HCMA).

The HCMA is meant to appreciate individuals, communities, organizations/companies/societies, governments, civil society and development partners - dead or alive, Nigerian or foreign – who have contributed to the enthronement of a “state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing, and not just the absence of diseases and infirmities” in Nigeria since 1914.

Each awardee shall receive a commemorative plaque, certificate and pin/lapel of insignia that will always stand her/him out as who she/he is/was in the history of health and sustainable development in Nigeria. Nominations from individuals, government, business, professions, communities and non-government/non-State sectors (NGOs, CSOs, FBOs and CBOs) are welcome. There is no limit to the number of nominations which an individual or entity may make, or the number of areas for which an individual or entity may be nominated for awards.

The Health Champions Merit awards shall specifically be presented for contributions that have successfully promoted/contributed to the realization of Health for All or Sustainable Development in Nigeria, through partnerships/collaboration, advocacy/mobilization, research/M&E/evidence-generation, capacity development/training and outreach interventions/service delivery in the following areas:

News - ‘HEFOSS-15’ PRESENTED TO NIGERIA’S EXPANDED THEME GROUP (ETG)

Yesterday 03 February 2015, a presentation on the 2015 Health, Human and Food Security Summit (HEFOSS-15) was made to the distinguished members of Nigeria’s Expanded Theme Group (ETG) during the ETG’s Q1/2015 meeting at the conference hall of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA). 

We sincerely thank the Co-chairpersons of the ETG Professor John Idoko – Director General, National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Nigeria; and Dr. Bilali Camara - UNAIDS Country Director for Nigeria, and UNAIDS Focal Point for ECOWAS for making this opportunity possible. We also thank all the members of the ETG for their kind attention.

INVITATION TO NIGERIA ZONAL TOWN HALL MEETINGS (THMs) DURING THE 2005 INT'L HEALTH, HUMAN AND FOOD SECURITY SUMMIT (HEFOSS-15)

Dear Stakeholder in Health, Human and Food Security in Nigeria;  

The Chairman Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, on behalf of the Central Planning Committee [CPC] and stakeholders in the 2015 international Health, Human and Food Security Summit (HEFOSS-15); and the Board of Afrihealth Optonet Association – Nigeria’s community, development and health systems strengthening civil society coalition/network, invites you in your official capacity, to the Nigeria Zonal Town Hall Meetings during this Summit holding at Reiz Continental Hotel Abuja, Nigeria on 18-19 May 2015, 9.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m. daily. The THMs shall hold as Breakout Sessions on Tuesday, 19 May 2015 during 11.30 a.m. – 1.30 p.m. Reports from each THM shall be presented and discussed by all the Summit participants in Plenary during 2.30 – 4.00 p.m. same day. The theme of the Summit is “Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Maternal and Newborn Child Health (MNCH), Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and Adequate Infant and Adolescent Nutrition for Productive Long Adult Lives in Africa 

Six parallel THMs shall be held for the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria. Each THM shall comprise State/government officials and non-state actors who are stakeholders or interested in developments in any State within the zone to openly discuss the state of Health, Human and Food Security in the States within the zone by focusing on:

1.      Issues
2.      Challenges
3.      Existing approaches to overcome the challenges
4.      Impact mitigation and best practices
5.      Implementation recommendations for sustainable Health, Human and Food Security improvement and better human development indices in the States/zone 

The zonal THMs and their participating component States are as follow: 

North Central Zone (Benue, FCT, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger and Plateau States)
North East Zone (Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe States)
North West Zone (Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States)
South East Zone (Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States)
South South Zone (Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Rivers States)
South West Zone (Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo States)
